What to Do When the Enemy Attacks
Friday, October 09 2009, 11:17 AM EDT
It's so difficult to get through this life without a scar. Some of us are given more than our share of trouble. Joseph and Azita went through extreme difficulty in Escape the Hezbollah and Joseph's faith was shaken many times. Azita was the one who kept strong. At times when we're under fire from the enemy the attacks don't seem to end. Every area of our life appears to be under a microscope by the enemy to see what he can attack next -- how he can hurt us and give us more pain. Who is this enemy? Why does he have such a hold on our lives and how can we overcome him?
Well, the Bible calls our enemy, principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. This is from the King James Bible. Other translations say it differently but the idea is the same. We are not fighting against flesh and blood.
Why? He has power over us because God has given each of us all free will. We live in a broken environment because of that free will. Good and evil exist in our lives no matter what we choose. We exist in this world where some of us choose evil without even knowing it.
No matter what we do or how we do it, we will suffer persecution in some way, shape, or form. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
So how do we overcome evil? I learned these verses a long time ago when I was ministering with a 'Jews for Jesus' group. These verses say it all:
Ephesians 6:10-20 Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
